Internal
and External lighting of St. Mary & St. Nicholas Church Wilton,
Salisbury, Wiltshire.
The logistics and design of any works in a church is extremely
difficult, with various rules to abide by. Not only the installation
but the general maintenance has to receive major consideration.
In this particular instance, the majority of high level internal lighting fittings
can be withdrawn into the triforium roof void by means of purpose
built fixing brackets. This makes lamp replacements relatively easy
without the use of scaffolding or long ladders.
State
of the art dimmer racks with a digital switch pack control the lighting
system. Several pre-set scenes can be programmed and accessed by
the push of a button. The effect is quite theatrical.
The
external flood lighting was a millennium project. The design had
to be sympathetic to local residents and to minimise the risk of
light pollution. With four carefully selected light projectors and
with correct positioning we managed to create a fantastic effect.
